World-Renowned Tattooist/Street Artist Mr. Cartoon to Design Original Artwork for Amrep FEL Garbage Truck

April 27, 2023

[CHARLOTTE, N.C. – April 27, 2023] — Wastequip, North America’s leading manufacturer of waste handling equipment, has commissioned an original artwork from world-renowned artist Mr. Cartoon to be featured as a mural art wrap on one of its Amrep brand front-end load (FEL) garbage trucks.  This one-of-a-kind statement piece will be unveiled and on display at the Wastequip booth (#2347) at the upcoming Waste Expo trade show in New Orleans, La. The piece was commissioned to honor Amrep’s Southern California heritage and deep ties, while emphasizing Wastequip’s commitment to making the world a more beautiful place.

Well-known in the art and pop culture worlds, Mr. Cartoon began his career as a graffiti artist adorning buildings and public spaces in Los Angeles and has moved on to become a tattoo artist to the stars and one of the country’s most popular and respected street artists.  His richly detailed, hand-rendered designs, which have become synonymous with L.A. street life, are now worn as permanent body art by celebrities like Eminem, Travis Barker, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, and the late Kobe Bryant.

The commissioned artwork is the first piece Mr. Cartoon, who relished the opportunity to work on what he views essentially as a double XL rolling canvas, has ever done for a trash truck and one of a only a handful of professionally artistically enhanced trash trucks across the country. The painting has been recreated as a vinyl wrap to make it more durable on the chassis of the Amrep FEL.

Originally founded in southern California, Amrep is a premier refuse body company that serves customers nationwide. Amrep prides itself on being the only refuse truck brand featuring bodies built from Hardox® high-strength steel with simple, effective designs that are easy to operate and maintain. Notably, the wrap will be installed on one of Amrep’s environmentally friendly natural gas-powered trucks.  Amrep and its parent company, Wastequip, are known for their efforts around corporate responsibility and their commitment to sustainability.

“While this project certainly has a ‘cool’ factor, it is the ultimate metaphor for the work that Amrep and all the Wastequip brands do each day to improve the planet, protect the environment and make things better in places all across the country where our products are used,” noted Wastequip Chief Executive Officer Marty Bryant. “The waste industry can sometimes get a bad rap in terms of being associated with things that are dirty or unrefined, when, in fact, we are helping to lead the way toward a better, cleaner and more sustainable tomorrow. This original Mr. Cartoon artwork allows the beauty of where we are headed paired with a tip of the cap to where we began to shine through, and we can’t wait to show it to the world.”

Wastequip and Mr. Cartoon invite attendees to check out the coolest FEL on the show floor at booth number 2347 at the show.
