Wastequip Helps TX Fire Department Fight Brush Fires

Published on 11/28/17

GEORGE WEST – The George West Volunteer Fire Department here soon will have another tool in its firefighting arsenal thanks to a generous donation from Charlotte, North Carolina-based Wastequip.

Company representatives including Kim Hennig, Chance Hennig and Peyton Cox Monday delivered a refurbished military surplus American General M-series 5-ton 6x6 transport truck. The vehicle, according to George West Fire Marshal Lee Wallek, will be converted for use as a brush truck and will sport the same red paint as a majority of the fire department’s fleet.

Kim Hennig said the cost of the truck, refurbishing and new tarp for the cargo area represents an estimated total donation to the fire department of $30,000.

He said the truck was originally slated to be sent for Houston for use in high-water rescues, but that plan was derailed due to liability issues. But because Wastequip has a hunting camp near George West, company officials thought they should use their donation to help the nearby fire department.

Wastequip is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of trash compactors and waste receptacles such as dumpsters and toters.
