Toter Introduces Eco-Friendly Composter for DIYers

Published on 10/29/13

Toter®, a Wastequip brand, and the nation’s leading manufacturer of two-wheel curbside waste and recycling collection carts, today introduces a simple-to-use composter for consumer use.

Designed to easily turn organic food and yard waste into useful garden compost, the gravity-fed Toter Composter features an internal aeration chimney that facilitates a continuous flow of air through organic materials to speed the composting process. It has dual holding chambers, so organic waste and finished compost are separated, providing continual, ready-made compost.

Unlike tumbler-style composters that require composting in batches, and take up to eight weeks to generate finished compost, food and yard waste can be continuously added to the top chamber of the Toter composter. The composting process is simple: the user drops organic food and yard waste into the top of the composter. As mixture composts over time, user occasionally turns the integrated brush handle, and finished compost falls through a metal grate at the bottom of the mixing chamber into the lower holding chamber. Compost is then ready for use, and can be accessed through a convenient door at the bottom of the composter.

Additional organic materials can be added to the composter at any time, so compost continuously cycles through the process, and user doesn’t have to wait for an entire “batch” to be completed.

The Toter composter is self-contained, fully-assembled, and ready for use right out of the box. It includes a handy kitchen countertop canister for collecting and measuring organic food scraps right at the source. Detailed, easy-to-read instructions for composting, including the recipe ratio of organic “green” to “brown” materials, is adhered to the underside of the lid, so there’s never a question about what organic mixture is ideal for composting. The composter has two rugged all-terrain wheels so it can be easily tilted and moved, whether to position it in areas with lots of sun to enhance the composting process, or closer to an area where finished compost is needed.

The Toter composter has a contemporary wood-grain finish that complements natural outdoor settings, and helps hide scuffs, scratches, and unsightly dirt. It has a secure latch that keeps critters and other wildlife out.

“As we began the process for bringing this exciting product to the market, we initiated extensive consumer insights to explore users’ frustrations with composters and composting in general, as well as what features and benefits consumers desired most,” said Joe Futcher, president of Toter. “Consumers continually expressed frustrations with the long, cumbersome process of composting, and asked for a composter that’s durable, easy to load, simple to use, and fast. There’s no other composter quite like ours, and we’re confidant that users will love it.”

Like all Toter products, the composter is built to last. It’s manufactured with Toter’s patented, stress-free Advanced Rotational Molding™ process, so the product is extremely durable and tough in the places that matter most. It’s flexible and impact-resistant, and easily handles the day-to-day abuse that outdoor products endure, including wind, rain, heat, and snow.

The eco-friendly Toter composter is manufactured with up to 50% recycled content, with fully recyclable, BPA-free polyethylene construction.

The new Toter Composter is available through online retailers nationwide, with seasonal availability at club stores. Suggested retail price is $229.00.
